Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
Tinnitus retraining therapy is a form of therapy which aims to help you achieve tinnitus habituation. Tinnitus habituation means that you may experience tinnitus but you are no longer aware of it most of the time and if you do become aware of it, it is not bothersome for you. Our tinnitus retraining therapy approaches are multidimensional. This means we take into account your difficulties with tinnitus as well as who you are as a person and your life circumstances.
Some people suffering from tinnitus might have more complex difficulties making tinnitus habitation more difficult. One example of this is trauma. Trauma which caused tinnitus in the first place or the trauma you experience tinnitus will stop you from habituating to it. Once you work through the trauma things become much simpler and you can move to the group of people who have tinnitus not problematic tinnitus.
Our approach aims to take into account the underlying difficulties which may be preventing you from habituating to tinnitus as well as the tinnitus itself.
Do you experience these problematic tinnitus symptoms?
- Inability to relax
- Feelings of anxiety when you hear your tinnitus?
- Do you become fixated on the tinnitus and struggle to think about anything else?
- Do you get stuck in a negative tinnitus cycle?
- Are you overusing your thinking function to try and find a way to find a way out of a perceived tinnitus prison?
- Has it taken over your life so you feel like it is no longer enjoyable?
- Do you no longer feal like yourself?
If the answer is yes to any of the above our tinnitus retraining therapy will help you.
