Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is available in Paddington London and Cuffley, Potters Bar Hertfordshire.
Tinnitus retraining therapy is a form of therapy which aims to achieve tinnitus habituation for a tinnitus sufferer. Tinnitus habituation means that you may experience tinnitus but you are no longer aware of it most of the time and if you do become aware of it, it is not bothersome for you. Traditional tinnitus retraining therapy might involve some form of directive type counselling and sound therapy.
Some people suffering from tinnitus might have more complex difficulties making tinnitus habitation more difficult. One example of this is trauma. Our approach aims to take into account the underlying difficulties which may be preventing you from habituating to tinnitus as well as the tinnitus itself.
Do you experience these symptoms?
- Inability to relax
- Feelings of anxiety when you hear your tinnitus?
- Do you become fixated on the tinnitus and struggle to think about anything else?
- Do you get stuck in a negative tinnitus cycle?
If the answer is yes to any of the above our tinnitus retraining therapy will help you.
Our Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
Our tinnitus retraining therapy involves five key aspects of treatment.
Practical Help
This component of our tinnitus retraining therapy involves helping you with practical difficulties in relation to tinnitus. Difficulties might include sleeping, relaxation, exercise and stress.
Tinnitus Counselling
Speaking to people who are not professionally trained to help with tinnitus can be damaging and misleading. Having a safe space to discuss your difficulties can be cathartic and informative. Directive tinnitus counselling can help you to see your difficulties in a different way and change your relationship with tinnitus and help you to habituate to it.
EMDR Therapy for Tinnitus
EMDR therapy for tinnitus helps you to process any trauma related to tinnitus causes and any trauma caused by tinnitus. Once your experience of tinnitus is less scary it will be easier for you to habituate to it.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Suffering from tinnitus can involve difficulties with the nervous system as well as medical problems or negative thoughts attached to an experience of tinnitus. Cranio-Sacral Therapy works with the body to enable you to calm down despite tinnitus difficulties and release trauma associated with tinnitus and past experiences.
Tinnitus Sound Therapy
Tinnitus sound therapy can provide short term medium term or long-term tinnitus relief. Quiet times or sleep times can be particularly problematic for tinnitus sufferers. Sound therapy can help with tinnitus habituation if used in the right way as well as provide tinnitus relief.
